Three qualities that make a book enjoyable for me are, when the characters are relatable to me or something that is relatable in life happens to that character. Another quality that I find makes a book good is, when the main character must over come a great battle or a challenge to have a happy ending in there story. Finally something that makes a good book is when it has a bit of suspense or thrill in the book to keep me very interested in what might happen. I think both books I have read this year contain all these qualities, and both Nineteen Minutes and Winter Girls had relatable characters in them. Like Lea from Winter girls, who had an eating disorder I believe this is something most girls in high school can relate to. Because even if they don’t have an eating disorder one of their friends or someone, they know is probably dealing with an eating disorder of some kind. Nineteen minutes became relatable because one of the main characters Josie had an obsessive boyfriend, how did not treat her right. This can happen to many girls in high school, they think that their boyfriend just "loves" them but really he is over protective. Secondly in Winter girls Lea has a great battle to over come, she must fight with herself and others about her health, she has to decide wether or not it is worth it to life and be healthy or to die trying to be skinny. In Nineteen Minutes Josie must have a battle with herself to overcome the horrible pain that she has felt since her boyfriend was killed. She also must challenge herself to tell the truth about the day that her boyfriend was killed. Finally in both books thrill and suspense is found, in Winter girls when lea is close to losing her life, you are sitting on the edge of your seat waiting to see what might happen. In the book nineteen minute suspense is found in every part of the book because we are left out of a lot of important details that are not included until the end. In conclusion books that have all three of these qualities can be enjoyable for me.
