Main Character

You're either someone or you're not.
I was someone. I was Regina Afton. I was Anna Morison's best friend. These weren't small things, and despite, what you may think, at the time it was worth keeping my mouth shut for." (page 1, Courtney Summers)
In this quote I have learned that this girl is very popular at her school. She is most likely pretty and her best friend rules the school. Most likely something has happened to change her mind about the friendship. She had to keep something quiet for this girl who is her best friend, and she is happy that she is a friend of this girl because it leads her to get what she wants, and she can be popular.
I think that something happens to her best friend and their friendship,or maybe they stop talking, a fight could happen and they share each others secrets to the school. I choose this video because from what I have read it is a lot like how the character's mood is at this point in her life and from what is happening to her. The lyrics are perfect to connect this book to this song one lyric that made me think the most of this was
"Mistreated, misplaced, misunderstood! Miss "No way ,It's all good," it didn't slow me down Mistaken, always second guessing, underestimated! Look, I'm still around..." Because this is what Regina feels like right now.

Some Girls are
by Courtney Suumers

This book made me think of the movie Mean Girls. They both deal with teenage girls in high school and dealing with being popular. The part of the book that made me feel or think of this movie was, when the main character Regina Afton was describing what it was like to be in the cafeteria at lunch in high school they also have a similar scene in Mean Girls. Regina goes into how and where people sit at lunch the clique tables, where the "popular's", the "Jock's" and the "nerd's" sit. The scene from the movie does the exactly same thing. And when I read this it was an immediate thought back to the movie. It was so much the same I could see the movie in my head as I read it. Although the pretext was a little different, example Regina was trying to find a seat in the cafeteria, and Mean Girls they are just looking around pointing to theseats or where people sit. But all in all it was the same. This is the connection I have made from text to the movie.

This was the first book I read called Cracked Up to be by Courtney Summers. This book talked about what it was like for high school senior Parker Fadley when she turned her life around. She used to be perfect Parker straight A's cheer leading captain and girlfriend to Chris the most popular guy in school. One night at an out of control party things get out of hand and next thing Parker is drunk witnessing her best friend being raped and killed unable to do anything Parker must live life knowing this horrible secret. Parker chooses not to tell anyone what she saw even though people know something horrible must have happened to have Parker change her life so much. Almost a year later everything has changes, Parker is now always drunk or stoned at school and she just wants everyone to leave her alone. She meets Jake "The New Guy" and he seems to make her feel things she never wanted to feel again. She starts to love again, but with everything weighing her down she just can't. She goes through many experience such as: her dog dying, sleeping with Jake getting Jake to work through his problems and to make Chris and Becky happy. After all this happens, she allows herself to tell someone what she witnessed this occurring in her being kicked out of her school. She is now allowed to heal herself after everything that has happened.

Review: For this book I found that the flash backs to the party could become confusing and awkward to read. When a flash back would occur it was hard to understand if it was a really good part of the book or if it was the flash back. The book made me want to read on and to want to find out what happened I enjoy the topics that they touched on. The characters got me into the book and wanting to find out what happened and what they were going to do. I believe this book was well written and many teens could relate strongly to and subject or to an event that occurred in this book. The over all review for this book was and wonderful book that teens of all ages would enjoy reading and I can't wait to read her other books!!!!
